Students' Show and Tell
Simply Amazing Paper-Pieced Quilt!Pat Frazier from Ocala, FL sent me this picture of her quilt featuring all the blocks from the 300 Paper-Pieced Quilt Blocks book and Star blocks from the 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars book in the border. She won a Blue Ribbon for her effort. Wow is the word that comes to mind. |
Wonderful Table Runner IdeaI recently saw a delightful use for the 9-Patch Stars on the web. I wrote Zoey and asked permission to share her wonderful table runners here. Zoe wrote: "I have such fun combining my quilting hobby with my love of setting tables. It's such fun to be able to make smaller useful projects like table runners. These two are made from 3-inch paper-pieced blocks from Carol Doak's book, Simply Sensational Nine-Patch Stars. With the seemingly unlimited possibilities of mixing and matching, this is the most useful quilting book I have ever bought. I am finding that I like the runners without any quilt batting in the middle. They stay nice and flat on the table if I use a heavier backing fabric and nothing in the center. If the backing fabric is not heavy, I do use a very thin bat." Thanks Zoey for letting me share your super idea here. |
Kalamazoo Log Cabin Quilters 2009 Raffle QuiltJean DeSavage sent me this picture of her guild's raffle quilt featuring the Michigan Star from the 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars book. Jean wrote: "The way I adapted your Michigan Star pattern is that I eliminated the center square from the paper pieced pattern so that we could have a solid piece of fabric for the applique. The applique flowers are apple blossoms, which is Michigan's state flower. Though they don't show in the pictures, because the quilter used blue thread, there are outlines of robins in each corner of the blue borders. Robins are Michigan's state bird." Thanks for sharing the picture of your guild's stunning quilt. |
Surprise Basket QuiltNancy Caldwell (on the left) sent me this picture of their Guild President when she received her surprise retirement gift at their holiday party. It's Olde Kent Quilt Guild, Chestertown MD. The basket pattern is one of the patterns in the free patterns section and it certainly makes a beautiful quilt! |
50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars SamplerThis fabulous quilt was made by Joan Ballard of Michigan featuring several stars from the 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars book. Joan wrote that she rarely keeps the quilts that she makes, but since she feels this is the most beautiful quilt she has ever made and her husband loves it as well, this one is a keeper! I definitely agree! |
